CBD Can Do Wonders for Pain in Dogs Without the Worry of Side Effects

When your dog cannot take traditional pain medications due to side effects, kidney or liver issues, or other health conditions, don’t lose hope! According to recent studies, CBD can provide exceptional comfort and pain relief to dogs, even those with moderate to severe pain. It’s all about getting the dosage right, which may be different for every dog. Some dogs need more CBD and others need less to achieve the desired goal: feeling better!

Here is a story about Lovable Pets’ owner Ellie Hansen and her use of CBD for her dog Eddie:

“Eddie, a 15-year-old beagle mix, suffered a soft-tissue injury to his front shoulder after making a sudden movement while he was being walked in a harness. He was unable to put weight on his front leg and even a week later his shoulder muscles were still painful and quivering non-stop.

After a trip to the veterinarian to diagnose the injury, Eddie was prescribed RIMADYL, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID, that’s used to reduce pain and inflammation. A few hours after the first dose Eddie began vomiting non-stop and Ellie was advised to take Eddie off the drug and switch to another drug called Gabapentin, an anticonvulsant and analgesic drug that is commonly prescribed by veterinarians to treat seizures, pain, and anxiety in dogs.

Once again, Eddie began vomiting non-stop and began having small convulsions. Ellie was advised by her veterinarian to stop giving Eddie the drug immediately.

Not knowing where else to turn to provide Eddie with pain relief and comfort, Ellie started giving Eddie doses of a full-spectrum CBD oil. When the suggested dosing amount on the packaging didn’t seem to offer Eddie relief, Ellie gave him additional doses of CBD until she saw that Eddie’s overall demeanor improved—both mentally and physically–with no side effects.

In fact, Eddie’s appetite returned with gusto and his vomiting disappeared completely. Ellie kept Eddie on high doses of CBD (about three times the suggested amount) for pain and inflammation for about three weeks. As the treatments began to heal him, his shoulder condition improved and Ellie was gradually able to reduce the dosage amount.

Eddie’s shoulder is now completely healed and he is back to one-hour off-leash walks five days a week. And while he still takes a maintenance dose of CBD to keep any possible inflammation at bay, his overall physical and mental health and well-being have improved greatly as a result.

Ellie credits CBD with preserving her old dog’s quality of life, enabling him to heal and get back to the daily activities he loves.”
